If you follow us on Instagram (if you don't you should @cleanwithlavox), you would have seen in our biography that we plant trees when we get new followers. We do this because we know how important it is to reforest the planet. Below are some facts about deforestation.
Now for the facts...In Australia has lost 27% of our rainforest, 19% of open forest, 11% of woodland forest and 28% of mallee forest since 1750. This is mind blowing, the sheer scale of destruction has been on-going and systematic. It is blatantly clear this needs to change and be reversed.
About 12 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from deforestation. Trees and the lack of trees is dire in regards to keeping temperatures down globally. When a tree is removed it means there is one less carbon sink on the planet and we need carbon sinks. Trees absorb the pollutants that humans put into the atmosphere.
In 2019, the world lost an entire soccer field worth of primary rainforest every six seconds. This is almost too hard to imagine the sheer volume that trees are being removed.
Okay enough terrifying facts...we know that re-foresting isn't the full answer but we know it is a step in the right direction. We need to keep the old growth forests around the world that we still have, so this is a priority, but we also need to start re-foresting land.
We have chosen the not for profit organisation JUST ONE Tree to donate to. They're an excellent organisation dedicated to reforesting the Earth. Check them out on Instagram @just_one_tree, we think they're great at what they do because together we can make a difference and they know the importance of tree planting.
